other corvette owners have tried this....

disconnect the battery... so there is NO current flowing through the contacts..

stick the ignition key in...  cycle the key from lock to crank to lock to crank... 100 times...

the opening and closing of the contacts rapidly can clean the contacts enough to clean the carbon off the contact surface enough to restore a decent contact...  these are spring loaded contacts.. so there is not a tremendous wiping force cleaning them each time the key cycles..

gm ignition switches are music box type of switch.. what.. let me show you...

the white spool has pins on it that hold the contacts open.. when you turn the key.. the spool turns and the pins as designed allow the proper contacts to close..

this switch came from a 98 C2500 with over 200,000 miles so its really worn..

please post what happens..

your ignition switch looks like this.. but the same theory inside...

a very similar switch inside..
