Recently I acquired a complete factory fuel injection system for a 1998 Chevy truck with the vortec 454. I plan on installing it into my 1978 K30 with a Mark IV 454 I just built. The problem is no one makes a timing cover for a Mark IV big block to accommodate the vortec crank position sensor. I've been thinking about cnc machining a timing cover and reluctor wheel to solve the problem. Anyone out there interested in such a thing or am I just crazy?

you should be able to get an external crank trigger ignition system to drive the vortec system in my opinion..

you will have to mess with the polarity probably..   as who knows which way either is wired..

you will want the trigger wave up or down??? that will throw you off..

i have not tried this.. but i work on fuel injection a LOT.. so it should be possible..

warning.. the vortec is more than likely a sequential fuel injection ..

the 454/7.4 has a different firing order than the 8.1 last gen big block..

the fuel injection sequence is different also..

I've thought about going that route but unfortunately it's a 4x4 application and I don't want anything external that could be damaged.

I would have to run coil packs then, otherwise that would be sweet. I want to do the least amount of modifying to this system since all I want is reliable fuel injection.

Also, that cover is for a gen 6 big block, whereas mine is the old school mark iv.

i think i found the WRONG parts to post.. as the 98 7.4 uses a vortec flat cap distributer with only a cam sensor in it..

the crank sensor is up front and probably just a 4x tone wheel...

these are probably for the later ones with DIS...
