Hello, I recently purchased a 1974 Vega that was already converted to a sbc. The seller didn't know what engine was in the car so when I got it home I did a little research. By the casting number I found that it is a 62-67 327. The number I can't find any information on is the number on the pad in front of the P/S head which is FI003S. I talked to all the local engine guys and pretty much exhausted all the resources that I could find online and came up with nothing. One of the local guys has a contact at year one so he called him up and year one said it could possibly be a Corvette Fuel Injected 327 which was the third off the assembly line in 65. I find that really doubtful because if it was, why would somebody drop it in a vega? It had an Offenhauser intake and Holley 390 carb on it when I bought it. If anybody could help me out, I would GREATLY appreciate it

I hate to burst your bubble but you don't have a HIPO 327 it's not fuel infected or anything like that.. Grin  Cool

Here's what you have #3782870 327 1962 to 1967 2 bolt small journal engine...Unless some one did some work to it thats what you have....Early small blocks with small journals some did have steel cranks..don't know if yours does...If you ever pull the pan..the crank will have a wide parting line on the nose..you can get the number off the crank and some-one can reference it for you

No bubbles burst here. I really doubted that was what it was. I had to make sure before I started pulling it apart to build it. Thanks for the info!

If you can do this right up front as you take the pan down if the crank has a wide parting line it could be a forged crank, if not you will see a number, for your 327 the forging numbers could be if forged:1130, 2680, 4577, 4672, 3734627, 3782680, 3884577, 3914672, 3951130..any of these numbers the crank is forged steel factory GM. Grin  Cool

Just some FYI.the 327 and the 307 share the same stroke. But the 307 crank is large journal and can not be used in you smaal journal short block..

Now not to confuse you GM did make a large journal 327. It's a 4.00" bore with a 3.25" stroke. Not to be confused with the small journal rods and large journal rods.. they are not interchangeable

F1107HC

F is FLINT production

11 is november

07 is the day of the month...

HC

HC
8-327 4BC 275 H.P.
Chev Pass. 65-68

8-350 2BC 250 H.P.
Camaro 69
Chevelle 69
Nova 69

can you get the julian date code off the rear of the block. near the above where the transmission bolts on.. (\)K17(\) or K18..   that would be november first 1967 or 1968 something like that.  there have been engine block identified that were cast on one day.. and by the next day.. machined and assembled..  expect K1 thru a K10 number first thru the 10th..
