My husband has owned his 1961 Corvette since 1966. We are now looking for the VIN on it and can't find it anywhere. Any ideas?

The 1961 serial number (Vehicle Identification Number -- VIN) was located on a stainless steel plate welded to the top of the steering column mast under the hood.
Serial numbers ranged from 10867S100001 to 10867S110939

an example...

24Xqpl0

warning...   DO NOT remove this vin plate thinking you can rivet it back on...   removing and reattaching the plate consists of VIN tampering..  a federal offense.. that they DO go after you for..

read up on the problems with the mustangs copied after the gone in 60 seconds mustang..

The VIN plate is missing from the steering column. What do  you do then? He has owned the car since 1966 and hasn't needed the VIN before now?

DMV VIN CHECK...

with as many of the previous papers as you can find...

the DMV will assign you a NEW VIN number.. that will be affixed to the door jam.. and SHOULD NEVER BE REMOVED  under any instances...

good luck...

there is a chance if you have the Original block in the car.. that the second line of numbers stamped in the head will be a matching partial vin...

sometimes the transmission will have a partial vin stamped into it..

the frame may also be marked...
