What trans will be better at the dragstrip,a 700r4 with 2500 stall,stage 2 shift kit or a 350 trans with the same stuff.The trans is going in a 67 camaro with a 350(with all of the good stuff),3.70 gears non posi.The 700r4 trans lockup converter is set to lockup in 4th gear only.The trans shift point is set at 5200 but shifts at 5500 because of slippage.If i change the lockup so that the trans only lockup at full throttle(hook a switch to the carb)will that eliminate the slippage and can the converter handle it.Plus will a posi help the ET time

a posi would definetly help.

 from what i understand 700r4s have a deep 1st gear, but a long spread to 2nd.  probably not the best choice for drag racing only but great for a street/strip car.

 i have seen guys control the lock up with a vacuum switch.  i could dig up a link if you need it.  heres one;

yeh the 700r has a deeper 1st gear,makes it easy to smoke the tires in 1st 2nd and sometimes in 3rd gear.But i was wondering if the lockup converter can handle the power and i will check out that link,thanks

I do not know if the stock lock up can handle the power of a race motor.
There qre supposedly some race converters that would lock up but I never ran one.
I really believe it would be a great help in drag strip performance. I would not want it to engage until high gear however as I would want the torque multiplication until high gear is reached. My big 632" motors would blow thru some pretty tight converters especially when the juice was applied so a lock up would have helped a lot.
You will want to get as much traction as possible so a posi is a must as are the biggest slicks you can fit.

I could hook up a manual switch to the trans to be on the safe side and the car is mini tubed.I had the old style n50 on the car with no trouble but switch to the 275r60 because of the bumps.I will get some street/strip tires for it
