I'm a wooden boat restorer. Currently one of the boats we are restoring has a 283 Chev. I have been told (it may be an old wives tale as I am NOT a mechanical guy) that 305 heads would be an improvement over the stock 283 heads due to the 305's having larger valves. Question: Is this true and are the 305 heads compatible to the 283 block?. I have 2 sets of 305 heads we salvaged from a 35' Chris Craft that was sunk at the dock. I sent them out had them magnafluxed , the valves done, new guides, seals ETC. Since we are going to have the 283 rebuilt I thought maybe this could be an improvement on power. Just a thought.............Any information would be appreciated.
