Hey guys, I'm planning a mild twin turbo build for a small block chevy which will be in a 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass (same thing as a chevelle, skylark, ect underneath). Anyway, there are two styles of manifold I could use. One has the turbo above the headers and above the motor, my only concert here is the turbo interfering with my brake master cylinder/booster. Another set is the headers that put the turbo forward of the engine. I'm worried about alternator interference. I don't NEED powersteering but it'd be nice to keep. I can lose it if need be but obviously water pump and alternator are a must. So, what is you guy's experience with the headers pictured below?

The upper set look to be a better Alternative if its a racer but Car Craft did a feature with the second set a couple of years ago. they worked but have a couple design Flaws that they had to compensat for. search for the article under Cheap E-Bay turbo's.or cheap turbo, will look it up tonite if you can't find it. Look for Ted Toki's YELLOW 55 Gasser the Flip Frontend Made it easy but they Still moved some stuff around. Good Luck (I would use the First set But I have a Sawzall and ain't Scared to use it.)

Hi there.
If "mild is all you want then do the job a bit
easier and with less expense with one turbo that
does it all. 2 turbos might look better but that
isn't the real story.
Unless you want all or nothing out of the 2 turbo
idea I would resort to the GM Vortec idea that was
around 10 years ago..I nearly bought one from Eagle
in Oz but the fitting into my Jaguar would have been
along with wiring = Great PITA because out here we
had Zero back up
and almost Zero people who knew Zero anyway.
In your great Paddock you can get almost anything.
All you need is MONEY!!.  All the best from Skyeking.

Hey skye how are you doing? You don't live in the Outback do you?
I don't think you are going to get away without fabricating something for the Turbo setup. I think the rewards will be good though if you work your way thru it. I remember a little Ford Pinto with a 4 cylinder engine and a Turbo that was able to run with BB Chevy's at the strip. This was in the early days when most, including myself, did not know what a Turbo could do.
If I was to run another drag car it would probably have a Turbo.

Hi there Gang,
I remember seeing in a magazine where this 427 had 4 turbos
hanging off it with the aim of getting 2000 HP.
I think tech know how has come a long way from then.

No!! I live in an Asian infested and now mostly owned suburb
about 10 miles from our main Sydney Airport..I stay at part
of Rent-a-dump split house and my best friends are mice.

2000hp out of a Turbo combination is not unusual now a days.
I heard some of the BB race setups are running closer to 3000.
My best friends are Cats. They are pretty rough on mice however.
Just like domestics are pretty hard on imports when it comes to
racing.
Here is a picture of my Cat Meatball. He is actually just pretty rough.
Keeps mice, dogs, traveling salesman, relatives and just about everything else away.

Hey guys sorry I hadn't replied, I didn't get an email notification there were any replies? I saw the yellow 55 chevy article with the second set of headers but they mentioned they had to move the brake booster and M/C which is what I don't want to do. Cutting up the car is not an option. I know the top headers that go forward would allow me to mount the turbos with no chopping but I don't know if I could fit an alternator after that.

I would use the front mounted Turbos. It will be much easier to remount the alternator than the master cylinder/booster. I did that many times when the alternator interfered with some other component. You will usually have to change the drive belt to a different size also.
Skye is right you will need good drive line components to go with all that power. When I was racing I found every weak link, which included all drive line parts, by breaking them at one time or another.

Hi there Dave 632 and birds of a feather,
latest scans show more lung tumors ans liver
"C" specs in early stages revisiting.
Tumor in lung now 1..3/4" round roughly put.
Pops it cork slightly now and then and very
small claret specs hit the hanky.
 Stiff cheddar olde cheese...
Would you believe that Sir Hoze' does more damage
than many cancers?.. Give that Budd the boot after
2 or 3 cans. No need to be a wowser.
Re-think..It may create a new eggspeariance.

Skye I don't drink any alcohol at all. From my
experience as a Military Policeman all I ever saw
from those who drank was stupidity. I have not had
any alcohol for about 47 years and it is paying
dividends at this time of my life. Never smoked either.
Did have some fast cars that could have caused some hurt
though.
