Im new here guys so bare with me. I have recently decided to put a 98 454 4 bolt main in my 76 chevy shortbed stepside, I found one that came out of a wreaked truck with only 60k on it, I want it to be a good daily driver so im not gonna get radical with it, I have the issues of chp of frankenrat an I like the direction they went with it, the only part they didn't cover was the length of the pushrods they used, Im not gonna go with a real big roller cam cause I don't want to run a stall, but I do want it to sound good.... so if anyone can give me a little help I would be greatful thanks....

If you do not want to run a higher stall converter, don't put any kind of long duration cam in it. Just putting in a wild cam on a stock truck motor will mostly give you bad gas mileage.
You should not have to change pushrods unless you are changing valve lengths, using taller lifters, or changing the cam base circle. Just use the stock ones.
What do you mean by sounding good? A mellow set of mufflers will make it sound good.

I just wanted it to have a little lope to it nothing wild, This is basically what I want to do with it, aluminum intake 650 holley an headers. But if the stock cam will perform ok ill run it.

HI SKYE. How have you been doing?
I would try the stock cam before making any changes. The intake, 650 and headers are good changes that should help performance. Any cam that will give you a lope will require some stall so that you will not have to stand on the brakes when at a stop light.
I remember putting in a cam that gave me a good lope. The total effect was losing about 5 mpg and gaining a tenth in my 1/8th mile ET.

sir if your engine uses a flat tappet system,might i suggest comp cams hydraulic flat tappet cam #11-205-3. a straight grind with 218 degrees duration at 50, 0.485 inch valve lift, 110 degree LSA. if your engine is a gen 5 or 6 and uses a hydraulic roller, might i suggest #01-411-8 [37]. a dual pattern grind, 212-218 degrees duration at 50, 0.510 inch valve lift, 110 degrees LSA?...good luck, enjoy
