So, I had every symptom of a clutch plate installed backwards on my 68 camaro.  Could not put into gear with engine running, if started in gear with clutch pedel pressed, car would jump as if engaged.  I pulled the transmission (Tremec 5 speed if that matters), verified everything installed correctly.  Flat side of clutch towards flywheel, used the tool, torqued everything, throwout bearing installed right, etc.  reassembled and same damn problem.  Out of ideas, very discouraged.  any help?

when you had the clutch cover unbolted.. but were holding it against the flywheel with the disc between...

how much gap was there before you started to snug the cover bolts down...

should have been something between 3/16 and perhaps as much as a quarter inch...  but usually not much more than that..

this is how far the pressure plate in the cover is retracted when you are installing a new disc..  if its more than that... you might not be able to release the clutch cover by depressing the fingers or diaphragm..

there are also several variations on clutch throw out arms...     clutch pivot pins...  throw out bearing heights..

Possible warped clutch disk, pressure plate or clutch fingers?

yea...

a friend to work the clutch pedal while you observe..

mirrors... flashlights... some kind of measuring tool.. so you can check the amount of movement of the clutch fork in the bellhousing opening..

a big screw driver or something like a tire iron spoon.. to lever the clutch fork without the bell crank and linkage attached...  so you can see if the clutch cover releases...  tires up .. you could spin the drive shaft with your hand..

just curious..  did somebody swipe your flywheel bolts... for conventional bolts.. with full height heads instead of half height heads???

All these parts were on the car when i drove it a few months ago.  I had the car painted, then put the engine and drivetrain back in.  I was the only one to work on it.  I'm 99% sure i used the same bolts that came out of it, i know those flywheel bolts are fine thread, and I only have so many of those.  I will have to do the check you listed wayne

is your setup hydraulic or mechanical?

which pressure plate do you have?  diaphram or 3 finger?

Years ago I had a 3 finger plate that broke a retaining spring,,, everything felt normal accept it had the exact same problem your having, the clutch would not disingage.

Mechanical, and diaphragm.  I wonder if the same problem could happen?

I wonder if the clip that holds the clutch fork did not slip under the head of the pivot ball stud and is holding the fork in the wrong position.  Did you have to loosen the adjustment to reassemble

She's on a trailer for New Orleans right now, but when I get down there I'll check that out.
