whats up guys just wanted to give a little update on the progress of my 496 build.planning to go for about 600hp 625tq.right now i have:

1974 4-bolt main 454 (been line-honed ridge honed out of cyl.(.014)and magged still have to have rest of machining done at build time)
280cc oval port trick flow heads 2.19 1.88 113 cc chambers
callies compstar 4.25 stroke crankshaft
probe 18cc dome forged pistons .060
edelbrock rpm air gap

In the next couple weeks ill be buying the compstar 6.385 h-beams.Also will be getting a custom hyd. roller cam from chris straub in a kit with morel sportsman lifters and pushrods.

Questions What will my compession ratio be with the 18cc dome pistons and the 113cc chambers,i was thinking about 10.5:1 ?

Sounds like a decent build.
Street, or street strip?

thanks pman comes out to 10.7 according to that. which will work out good.
thanks dave it is a street car(basically building it to be almost unbeatable on the street unless by an all out race car, lol),but wouldnt mind taking it down the track a couple times to see what it would do.ive also got a built ford 9 in. that i have to put in after the big block goes in.

sounds good, a guy close to where i live has a 69 nova with a bbc 605 in it, full street car, all glass and carpet whole 9 yards, just has a nice cage in it. It makes 1004 hp on the dyno ( i never seen papers on it ) He drives it all the time and grudge races it. You can see a vid at you tube by spelling 69nova vrs 1400. It was a race with car in primer, vrs kx1400 street bike.  I would love to have a bad street car like your about to build.

Sounds interesting.
I always ran a 9" Ford in my cars, they can be modified to handle quite a bit of power.

thanks jpatt, and ya that guys car sounds crazy, lol.dave thanks for the interset ill keep updates coming. hoping to get it together next spring, for cruising next summer.the 9" has been set up for an a-body already and has a 3.70 posi, its from quick performance.dont think the old 8.2 10-bolt 3.73 posi will like the bbc to much.then i gotta think about rims cause i the stock rims and 8 in street tire wont do me any good either but i love the look of my stock rims

You will need all the rubber you can get to keep from going up in smoke, especially when you get to the strip. If you can afford it get a set of drag radials on a separate set of rims for track use. I did that with my 95 Camaro and I just drove it to the track with the tires on it.

So i have a few updates on my build. I now have my callies rotating assembly and have had it balanced.I talked to the cam guy(chris straub)last week and will be getting my hyd. roller and morel sportsman lifters from him in a few weeks. He says he thinks the motor will make about 615hp and 645tq.I just got my moroso oil pan with the windage tray and crank scraper. So everything is coming together, I hope to get it done this spring and summer. Will keep up the updates.

Those HP estimates are within reason.
The one claiming 1004 is dreaming unless it was built by Reher and Morrison and it cost 35,000, or he was loaded with a bunch of juice. I don't think either of my 632s made that on motor even the one with the big chief heads and two 4s which ran 135mph in the 1/8th motor only.

72chevelle

Did your cam guy already determine that your pistons won't hit the valves with the set-up he chose for your engine. IMO: Engine balance should be the last thing that should be done.
I'm only saying this because sometime degreeing a cam you may need to flycut the pistons. Or I've had guys change type of piston, change from a 4 speed to an automatic and Visa Versa, or a clutch assy also there so many varibles. It's just my (2) cents.
