tchavers92: After reading all the questions you have that are very good. I would suggest you pick up a HOW TO REBUILD MY SMALL BLOCK CHEVY by David Vizard. You will have all the terminology in it. Vizard is one of the better author's out there. He just doesn't tell you about cam lift or lobe seperation he goes into detail about it, and what it does. Confused

I'll tell you something else knowing how to read the parts as you tear down the engine your going to rebuild is just as important as putting it back together. Whether it's a stock rebuild or a 600 Horse Power small block. Just my observation and I think you will enjoy it more, and have more fun doing it. Then when your out there blowing the tires off your ride. You can say I built that engine. Have fun and enjoy life it's too short........ Cool

WHEN I STARTED RACING MY DAD SAID TO ME, SON NOONE HAS THREE BALLS, IT'S JUST SOME PEOPLE HAVE TWO GREAT BIG ONES! Grin

I'll add to this thread.,. I don't simply tear an engine apart, instead, I do a step by step "autopsy" as things unfold.,. one layer at a time.
This is the only opportunity I will ever get, to correctly identify engine failure.
Overkill.,. maybe,,, but, I stretch my engines to the elastic limit with confidence and don't expect failures.
"BB TEARDOWN"
462Teardown
By taking preventive measures beforehand, much disappointment can be avoided.
But, this remedy takes a blend of patience, deep thought and understanding.
Most guys lack the patience to do things right the first time, there is no time for that nonsense.,. BUT, there is always time to do it a second time.,. right.
I've been involved in motor sport all my life and enjoy like minded people, that choose to be consistent winners, why.,. because they plan to win.
Even a poor plan is far better, than no plan at all.
Just my random thoughts.

I'm right on the US/Canada border and the Pacific Ocean is 10 minutes away.,. love it here cuz it seldom snows, but it rains. At least I don't have to shovel that stuff.
It's hot rod and motorcycle heaven here where fruit grows.

It's one of several Pman, I have 4 BB's and 3 SB 400's, to mention only a few, that I have pics of on PhotoBucket.
Some of my engines, the Flatty is going to be blown and the huffer is at the top in pic, with the drive snout sticking out.,.

350 horse 350 marine SB, on test stand, ready for cam break-in later on today.,. It's all static set-up, to show that it can be done.
I'll take a vid for the newbies and start a new detailed thread.
You already did one on engine building, so the vid will compliment that.

Here is a pic of my 28 1/2 foot Bayliner Cierra, the 383 is coming out and one of the 406's is going in.,. I'm hoping the Volvo 290 stern drive is up to the extra power.

It's been a month since the original poster, tchavers92, posted anything here.
I think it's safe to assume that his questions have been answered.
Sooo, we'll use this thread to banter back and forth.,. kinda like a speakeasy.
