Im going to use this thread to show you guys the projects I do on my el camino. Its a 80 with a 350/350 combo and 3.73 gears. Ill start with what I did yesterday.
Heater delete- I removed my heater because although it is a street car I have only driven in the rain once and never when it is below 60 degrees. The little flaps inside didnt seal, and blew black powder every time they moved. So, because it was easy to do and it would make things look better I removed it. It was easy getting the actual heater out. Just remove the trim and screen thing on top, all bolts and wires and pop. It was amazing how much better I could wire my dash. It took up so much room inside you could fit a nitrous bottle. Seriously, if someone does that it will fit, I was thinking a little fake vent to turn the knob. Smile Anyways then I had a huge hole in my fire wall. I went in town to a local welding store. They had some scrap aluminal sheet metal laying around they sold me for $15. Way cheaper than the panel on ebay. After alot of time with cardboard, and sheers this is what I had.

It really changes the engine compartment. I will brobably paint it black bu tin the sun it looks good now because I did a swirl pattern with sand paper. We will see. Next project: new fuel pump and rear roll pan mounting.

definetly makes it easier to work on things.    id paint it black and use some black rtv to seal any leaks.     kinda makes me appreciate a nice full stainless firewall on a show car.   theyre not that easy to make clean.    lots of test fitting with cardboard first.     you can probably scrap that brass heater core for what the aluminum costs. Now you have a good spot to mount an MSD box and a droF starter relay.

That would look good. I was thinking baout mounting the fuel pressure reg. too. Why would I want a ignition box. I see alot of people running them. Would I have top get rid of my hei distributer?

Here is some pics of todays projects.

you can keep your hei, just make sure you use the magnet triggfer harness to disable the ignition module or it wont idle less than 1500 rpm. if you choose to do it, that was my mistake when i put mine in

So I ran into some problems with my car today. After the head swap I seem to ahve all gaskets sealed except one. Problem is I dont know which one. It is dripping down the pass. side of the engine and falls on the header. Not good. Any ideas of where it could be coming from? I used silicone under the manifold, dont know if it maters. Also has anyone ever built their own rear control arms? lower in particular?
