I have a 1983 chevy el camino and blew my 305 and now putting in a 350 mild performance rebuild with factory specs crank and pistons, edelbrock performer rpm cam, comp cam double roller timing gears and chain. What heads, intake, carb, headers/exhaust manifolds would be a budget but best fit for it?? I was insisted to buy 882 heads.

Find an aftermarket aluminum head that fits your budget.  Edelbrock probably has the least expensive line.  That Eddy RPM cam will be a total dog without a 1800-2200 stall converter.  For a DD I suggest their performer cam or another manufacturers with similar duration numbers.  Use the RPM airgap manifold and a 600-700 cfm carb.

ok thanks, my friend has a stall converter that is about 3500, my brother is trying to convince my family into re-using the 305 heads, intake, and carb which all equal junk to me.

If you can't fund aluminum heads, World's S/R Torquer cast iron heads would be lightyears better than the stock 305 heads on a 350 block.
3500 stall may be too much.  Changing the cam would be the easiest way.

What rear gear ratio do you currently have?

What other changes do you plan on making to the car now.
You have to think of the modifiactions in a whole package concept.  Large cam needs more stall, rear gear, and produces less vacuum for accesories and brake booster.
If you are just putting a differnt/rebuilt motor in to replace the 305 don't let the numbers get you.  The numbers(hp/tq) for the RPM cam are nice but the way it acts in a car with stock stall and 3.08 gears will disappoint you quick.  It'll run great after it hits 2500rpm but will take forever to get there.

well the trans to rear-end is fine, shifts great, i got the th350 so im in good hands there, i'm putting a new radiator in and change some things up like some of the emissions will be gone, moving to headers, and different exhaust, a guy offered me some #333882 heads still questionable about those.

The heads were offered because their best use these days is door stops or boat anchors. You could spend a couple hundred doing a valve job on them or for less than a grand have something to talk about.

The 882 heads on a 350 block with the performer cam will be a big improvement over the 305 and will give increased torque in an rpm range that is compatible with street driving. The RPM cam with 882 heads is a bad combination.

So what is the gear ratio in the factory rearend? 2.73, 3.08?
That RPM cam does not start making power until 2500rpm, with 3.08s and a 27" tire it will be a slug from a dead stop.

Laughing4

400's or boost engines are the only ones where 882's are of any use.
Wasting time and money on them is not practical.
Get a decent set of heads.

For the money spent to refurbish an old worn out set of heads you could have new heads that flow better and make more power.

Unless you plan on changing those 2.73s real soon, you need to get a cam with 260-285 advertised duration.

Read this article.

You'll have to add the protocol and remove the space between summit and racing.

i did, found a couple cams that are somewhat less lift and in the duration range that is needed, thanks for the page, will probably go with a Lunati voodoo or just the summit brand is a good choice just for the motor to get running right now

I have a 350 in a 80. Same thing. I had 882 heads and decided to upgrade to some eq heads that we're only 100 each on ebay. Made the world of difference. I went with the hooker headers. They fit prety well but at the bottom of the a arm mount on the drivers side you have to grind out. And your trans crossmember will need modified. The cam im using is the comp xe 262 h. I like it cause it saved me alot on my valvetrain being just low enough lift. Get a stall converter now I didn't and wish I had.

Yep, 882 work on 400 builds, but the 76cc chamber is simply too large for a 350 build.,. and sinking money into them is really a big waste of time, hoping for power gains that never come.
