I have a sale on 2 454's. The first is a 73-76 pass. 454 361959 and the other is a gen V 10114182 block. Which gen. would the 73-76 block be considered? I never had that whole gen. thing downpacked esp. w/the older 454's. Would the older engine be best?, I've heard alot of negative remarks about the gen. v regarding heads and gaskets. Any guidance would be appreciated, Thx in advance Confused

Do NOT use the Gen.V block.any earlier 454 block is a genIV.leave the 396/427 gen.III blocks for restorer's.

10114182 454 91-95 4-Bolt Gen-5

361959 454 73-85 Car & Truck

I would use the older block.

I prefer the Mark IV BB as my foundation, for a build.

Gen.V blocks have re-routed water passages and can use earlier heads with the right gaskets and some other consolations.as well as using a One piece rear main seal and Factory roller cam.Chevyhiperformance.com covers this.GenVI will take the earlier heads and also use one piece rear seal and roller cam.Gen VII (a 496) has these heads that look like the LS heads but are crap and nothing early bolts on,but the Marine eng.builders are doing the heads and the crank in a 502 block makes a 555.Find an early Gen IV block and build away, Two bolt blocks with cast cranks can take 500 HP all day long.Step Up accordingly. I am really new to big blocks but am very sure factory stuff will handle street use.

heck yeah +1 BBC cranks and rods are great for street use, I think the biggest problem with ANY BBC is keeping it COOL!!!! once you build a hot BBC they make some serious heat.

Just be ready for a full cooling system along with your new FAT RAT!

Mark I is the 348/409
Mark II is the "mystery Motor"
Mark III was a series that was prototyped but never released
Mark IV was the 396/454 from 65 until 1991
Gen 5 is the 454/502 from 1991 to 1995
Gen 6 is the 1996 up 454
Gen 7 is the 8.1

+2 mark is the same as generation but mark was only used for bbc.
