I'm new to this forum but faithful reader of Chevy Hi-Performance. I have built a few sbc's in the past but still a novice. My current project is a 1976 Chevy C20 4x4 Long Bed that my dad purchased new and I working to restore. In years past we pulled the 350, bored 30 over, installed a RV cam, edelbrock performer intake and holley 600 spreadbore carb, hei distributor, stock heads (76cc) and stock manifold. Running stock turbo 350 automatic with 4.11 gears.

I would like to build the SBC, keeping the bottom end torque (being a 4x4 truck) but have 450hp range with atleast 375hp to the wheels. Any help with combinations for the cost or buying a motor already built 500hp for $5k. I am torn with all the options and cost of dyno proven top end kits, stroker packages, carbs vs efi or supercharger, roller vs hydraulic cams.

I have narrowed down my upgrades to: stepped headers, retro-fit roller cam - lifters & rockers, holley 750 carb, edelbrock air gap intake, 62/64cc aluminum 200 heads CNC chamber and runners, dual 2.5" flowmaster mufflers, MSD HEI Dis and 6AL MSD Box.

Any suggestions, advice or combinations you have run would be appreciated!

souns like your headed in the right direction already. maybe stay a little conservative with your cam if your building for torque.  welcome to the forum. Cool

A 450 hp 350 is not going to be fun on the street in that truck.heads w/ a 70 cc chamber and185-195 runners a good intake.a non-roller .500 lift is all I would run, stepped headers aren't necessary. For Torque I would go to a 383 in that block.and It isn't a race truck so a GM HEI with a coil upgrade and good parts is enough but a store bought MSD distrubuter can turn out as cheap.hope this saves you a 1000 dollars.

Unless you go the blower route there is no way you are going to get 450hp out of a STREETABLE 350.
A BB is the only way to get that kind of power NA, and still be streetable.

Curious, then what combination would you recommend in the small block 350 for the most torque and HP for the street? Using the best parts....rough cost and final hp range?

that is a large truck and torque is what you need.I would make it a 383/.030, for good stuff in the bottom end the cost is around 18 hun. to 2200.goods heads are 750 to 1000 for steel and 12 to 2 thou. for great alum.heads.there are always way's around some costs but building 375-425hp is a big step and you will pay a thousand dollars for that extra 50 horses.so my goal would be 400hp and as much torque, keep the cam under 6000 rpm like an RV cam but modern tech.under 4thousand dollars but barely, read tylers build of a 383 lots of good reading

Thanks Guys for the input....the search for parts begins. If anyone knows where to find a good used 383 with the desired specs or parts for my build combination...please let me know.

I think he only wants 3K for it.
Sounds like a cheap way to get 450hp.
