Im building a 454 chevy. It's a 2 bolt main. I've  had it bored .030 over and have new dome speed pro pistons and rings they came in a kit. I had the crank turned .010. The cam I bought was a comp cam 292 magnum kit that came with new lifters, timing chain and gears. I've got new world merlin lll heads #30040 with 230/188 stainless valves.  I have to get a pushrod length checker before I can get my rockers and pushrods . I'm just gonna stay with the hei for now. I'm probably gonna go with the victor Jr. Intake and a proform 950 carb. Any thought or input would be appreciated. Does it sound like I headed in the right direction

My guess:
What your building is looking good for a mild BBC build. It's very close to pump gas friendly 9.5:1 factory BBC LS5-LS6.

Most Merlins come with 119cc chambers and using the pistons from the kit that was recomended to you-

Brand  Speed Pro
Manufacturer's Part Number  ZL2465F30
Part Type  Pistons
Product Line  Speed-Pro Power Forged Pistons
Summit Racing Part Number  TRW-L2465F30

Bore (in)  4.280 in.
Bore (mm)  108.712mm
Piston Style  Dome, with single valve relief
Piston Material  Forged aluminum
Compression Distance (in)  1.640 in.
Dome Height (in)  0.226 in.
Piston Head Volume (cc)  -25.70cc
Wrist Pin Style  Press-fit
Pin Diameter (in)  0.989 in.
Piston Ring Thickness  5/64 in. x 5/64 in. x 3/16 in.
Quantity  Sold individually.

Simalar to BBC LS6 piston but open chamber only piston.
It would give @ 9.5:1

With the cam is very close to an factory BBC LS6 cam-
Brand  COMP Cams
Manufacturer's Part Number  CL11-213-3
Advertised Duration  292 int./292 exh.
Duration at 050 inch Lift  244 int./244 exh.
Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio  0.550 int./0.550 exh. lift
Lobe Separation (degrees)  110

But if you use these pistons instead you would have a clone up graded BBC LS6 with over 450hp
Brand  Speed Pro
Manufacturer's Part Number  ZWL2372AF60
Would put it at @11:1
Put a copy of an L88/LS7 cam and you would be over 500hp

The L-88 and LS-7 were solid lifter engines, not hydraulic. They also ran 12.5 compression. With todays gas, I don't think anymore than 10 to 1 is practical, for the street.
Getting one horse per cube should't be a problem

You're thinking practical now p2
Once upon a time we had 98 premium gas, the red stuff, and we could run 40deg total advance on the street with 12.5 slugs,,, 1.5 was common. At the strip I even went to 41deg, but those days are gone and trying to piece something together now, with TOO MUCH of anything, is not very clever
IMHO

Sure, you'll have to unbolt the motor mounts on the crossmember and move them forward and up,,, the holes are already there from the factory. Use the stock steel Chevy motor mounts, that came with the 454. The tranny bolts up again too, with one bolt mount,,, driveshaft is fine too.
I "parked" a BB in my '75, for a temp home.
It's an easy swap.
