i have a 600 cfm performer carb on my 74 el camino it does not require smog it has a 350 with an edelbrock performer intake and headers and i was wondering which vacum port should i hook up my distributor to the part time throttle on the passenger side or the full time port on the drivers side ? having it on the full time speeds up my idle RPM to abou 700-900 while on part time it is about at 450-600 im not sure on which it should be on and input is great . thanks Tyler

It should be hooked up to the timed vacuum port which will have little to no vacuum at idle.

i watched a carb tuning video and the guy said that smog legal cars have it hooked up to the part time where as muscle cars pre smog have it hooked up to full time

I would still hook it up to the part time port the full time port will advance it at idle and could cause detonation. Vacuum advance is only need at part throttle speeds.

ok that does make sence do you have any idea how much it advances the timing when you give it throttle or does it depend on how much throttle you give it

I tend to disagree, and would recommend using manifold vacuum. Here is a post by a GM engineer that I find helps. link to post

If I remember right the vacuum advance on hei distributors has a maximum of 16 degrees advance unless it has a adjustable vac. advance canister.
The vacuum advance only works during part throttle operation and not at wide open throttle and there is no need for vacuum advance at idle.

The port that has vacuum at idle is "manifold vacuum", the port that has vacuum when the throttle is opened is "ported vacuum".

I HAVE A VACUM PROBLEM. I NOW HAVE A 350CI WITH A 510 LIFT CAM AND A 108 LOBE SEPERATION, DOES ANYBODY KNOW ABOUT HOW MANY INCHES OF VACUM I SHOULD BE PULLING? I HAVE A TURBO 350 TRANNY AND I THINK IT WILL NOT SHIFT PROPERLY BECAUSE OF VACUM, ALSO MY BRAKE PEDAL IS HARD WHEN DRIVING BUT AT IDLE IT SEEMS TO FEEL RIGHT. ANY HELP WOULD BE APRECIATED THANKS.. 7Nova1,
Start a new thread. Its called hijacking someones thread when your bringing different issues to someone elses post. Im not trying to be a dick about it cause i did the same thing with my first post. But nobody will normally respond to you if you hijack peoples threads. Just sayin
