I have a 79 chevy c-10. Pick-up and i am trying to pull the windshield withou breaking it how do i pull it so i can save it...im restoring the thruck n it has a great windshield ..i want to save it any tips on how to pull it and save it...
thats a big windshield.... cut the rubber along the inside of the glass with a LONG LONG flexible knife that the end is sharpened to as sharp as a razor.. with tape wrapped around the blade to protect your hands... leaving only 3 or 4 inches exposed.. now that its cut.. 3 people can push the windshield out starting at the top from inside the truck.. once it starts moving out at the top.. the outside 2 people grab it by the sides while the third in the middle continues helping carefully pushing.. there is an antenna embedded in the glass.. use care to disconnect it from the base of the glass... and to not cut thru the wire with the long knife..replacement rubber starts at about 40 bucks... brand new windshields are cheep also.. and usually can come unboxed but wrapped via UPS.. i am not sure about these... check with all the different glass shops in your area... i live in los angeles.. and i can usually get them installed for the price of the glass below... http://www.lmctruck.com/features/cc/cc9bn.htm
this is what professionals use to cut some of the GLUED in glass out... please.. USE Care... that you don't slice thru your hands or other body parts... i know.. there are kevlar police type gloves for under 10 bucks at HF stores... Kevlar Lined Leather Gloves, X-Large Western Safety - Item#95569HF and other stores also have some kevlar or nomex filet gloves... that are also knife cut resistant . usually in a bright yellow color..
Thanks that def helps out alot
Doesn't a 79 C-10 still had the big fat gasket with the spreader strip? We always pulled the strip out and then pushed the rubber gasket little by little over the lip from inside the cab where the window sits in the frame. It takes a bit to get it started, but we were to cheap to by a new gasket.I guess if your restoring it then you'll be buying a new one.
The older I get,the faster I was.
