It sounds like a vacuum leak under that new carb! Spray carb clean under the Demon carb. If the idle goes higher then you have a vacuum leak under the carb

1.Does the carburetor base match the intake manifold? Is it a square flange carb. On a square flange intake.
2.Or did you install a square flange base carb. On a spread bore base intake?
3. Or is it all visa-versa.

everything bob said...

exactly which model demon.. and part number...

why....

many have a choke device... with a fast idle cam and fast idle cam screw...  that could be holding the throttle open.. stuck on fast idle...

but ... i would also like you to check the secondaries..     with a bright flashlight look down the secondaries.. make sure you don't have trash holding the secondary butterfly open.  .  bring the primary throttle lever part way open.. grab the secondary rod.. push it open slightly...  this can clear the secondary butterflies..

do you have any OPEN vacuum ports under the back of the carb???

any that failed to get a plug in the back of the carb...

can you pinch off the vacuum hose to the power brake booster..  make sure the power brake booster is not blown out..

how is your PCV valve..??? intact...   if you pull the PCV valve from the valve cover. if you block the opening of the valve.. does the engine drop about 50 to 70 RPM.. that shows its the proper calibration...

what did you do with the EGR passages... one is exhaust.. one is open into the intake...   thats a big enough vacuum leak to prevent almost any engine from idling...

lastly...

can you take out the air cleaner stud from the middle of the carb...  stick a flat bladed screw driver into that hole.. some demons are equipped with a idle air bypass screw that is accessed via the threaded air cleaner stud hole.  this allows you to use the carb without needing to drill holes in the throttle plates to get it to idle.. when you have a lumpy cam..

Thanks Wayne: I need to keep up on those carbs too I guess. You usually have it all covered....
Thanks Bud
