Gear Ratio and Torque Converter Advice

I'm upgrading the power train in my 1967 Chevelle Convertible and would appreciate some advice on gearing and converter selection. I'd like to get it right the first time!

Here's the summary:

Street use, some highway, no strip

SBC 400 engine with mild cam: at .050" lift 214/214, advertised 288/288

225/55R16 tires = 25.7" diameter

Will add a 200R4 trans 2.74 first, 1.57 second, 1.00 third, 0.67 overdrive

Will add at 12 bolt with Eaton Posi.

Which rear axle ratio do you recommend? 3.55? 3.73? 4.10?

I want something with decent mileage, decent hwy rpm (not too low, no lugging), and I want strong acceleration but don't want to break loose my tires at every stop sign.

Also, what stall converter would you recommend? lock up or non?

Go with a 3:73 rear gear.
Go with a 2800 Stall convertor. As long as you stay in the paremeters you stated!

I agree with the 3.73 rear gearing.  4.10 would cause my street tires to break loose too easily and since I will be adding an overdrive trans, I don't need to go to a 3.55.

Thank you for the 2800 stall torque converter recommendation.  How did you arrive at that?  What are the major factors to consider?  

Also, what about lock up or non-lock up?  I've heard arguments for both.

I appreciate your, or anyone else's thoughts.

Now I don't want you to fall down laughing, so please sit down...LOL... I have an old Moroso slide type calculator. (I call it a dream wheel). It worked in the 1970's and it still works in 2012.

Moroso still has it. The old plastic has cracked, I have taped it together, and it really needs to be replaced. I don't want to retire it as we have along history together...LOL...
