Which Gear Ratio would you choose?

So I thought I had my gear ratio picked out and was pretty positive on this but, recently I had different thoughts on it. Let me start with what I got going on. I have a SBC 350 with a pretty big cam over half inch. 3200 stall converter with a TH400 with a shift kit. The engine is running about 550hp. I want to use a 4.10 gear ratio. but, I started thinking about a 4.56 gear ratio. Now I ask you which gear would you choose for mostly strip limited street use?

456 would be better for the strip because your engine will stay revved into the power band 410 would be better overall fast streeter

i would whant to no tire size, car weight and duration on cam @.050 befor saying a definte but most likely the 4.56 would be the best at the track but if the car is light and cam duration is not to big the 4.10 might not be to bad at the strip and a little bettter on the street

Like nick272 has said your cam choice needs numbers.
To help you give us as much info as you can. Tire Height, width, rear your running now,10or 12 bolt,a Dana 9"Ford whatever posi spool(NOT recommended for the street).?
Your cam specs are vital so we know where your cam is coming in, and low and high RPM. Who's cam Crane,Lunati, etc. Intake manifold, who's and P/N. Distr. Carb Who's and what size.
Everything you have, and MOST of all what your main use is going to be. Because a car with 550 HP set-up correctly is really fun!!!Good Luck... Thanks Bob

The cam specs are it's a Comp Cam 250 intake duration at 0.50 and 256 exhuast duration at 0.50 Intake lift 0.519 and Exhuast lift 0.523 with 110 lobe angle. Runs between 2800rpm and 7000rpm. all components on the engine are running between 2800 and 7000rpm. Tire size will be between 28 and 30 inch tall tires with 10.5 width. It is in an s10 pretty stripped out about 3000lbs. Some street with most track use.

I would go 4.10 sense it is in a s-10 as they are pretty lite.

You need more cam. You will loose some in the height and your first choice of 4:56 would be in order. If it where my car I would put 4:88 or even 5:10 Gear. Your 10.5" inch tire will kill you. YOU NEED BITE! I don't know what the compound is and at this point it doesn't matter. The bite you will need is in the area of 12" to 14" tire. I also don't know wnat your using for rear suspension?
If your engine bottom end has all the good pieces. I would use a cam with a .288 duration on intake and a .292 on the exhaust side. With lift of .650 to .670 With a matching valve springs of course. You can push the lift to .690 if you want. Use those duration figures they will get you moving.
I set your specs up = 500HP 6LBS to Weight ratio of 3,000LBS. No Driver was figured in. You should run 10:40 @ 128MPH
The speed and the above figures I gave you are approximate for what info you gave us. Thanks Bob
