Here is my question: How can the average guy even afford that kind of budget?
If I spent that kind of money on my truck I better be able to live in it - because I'd have to sell my house! More power to you guys that can do it but I've never had that luxury. I haven't spent that kind of money on projects in the last 10 years combined!
Here's a question for guys like me: How much time have you spent on eBay hunting for bargain parts for your project car? How much did you save?
I've owned many muscle cars over the years and cannot even afford a p.o.s. starter Camaro now - this hobby is out of control! As for "Muscle Trucks" - if you ain't a truck guy don't buy them as a muscle car alternative - I don't need to spend $10000 to buy a 73 C10 Short Bed starter project because they're the "NEW CHEVELLE"!

i have to agree with moldman66...i didn't finance that much to buy my house...haven't spent even half that fixing it up either...if i don't do it, it ain't gettin' done...house or car...tightly gripped fist on few dollar bills in hand
and he's also right on the truck issue...if you ain't into trucks, don't get one as a project or investment vehicle (no puns intended)
and moldman66...that chevette crap will turn into v6 camaro crap at about 25 posts...it's like a ranking system that is a littledifferent here as appossed to hotrod or pop hot rodding were they use "new user" "user" "entusiast" and so on...surf the sc forum a little long and you'll see a kind of "cute" sayings under peoples' names...as you can see, i've added my own wise cracks about the rating system in my tag line

I have about 15 grand in my 64 El Camino and it hasn't rolled an inch in over 5 years. I wish it was possible to build a decent ride for a few bucks but, if you build anything decent, it's gonna cost you. Just think how much you save over having some pro shop build your ride for you. That's what fries my hide and that's about all you see in the magazines. Very few do-it-yourselfers cars make the magazines.

Ya 50 grand that is not for the average car guy. A buddy of mine has 16 grand in his regal and I have to say it is pretty darn nice.

Yeah I kow what you guys mean , I need to do a frame off restoration and mine will be done but i ran out of funds , to do the frame of restoration is gonna run me around $15 G's. I think i would put that down on a new car instead.or a down payment on a house better.

you're saying you've already spent 50 thousand dollars on this car and haven't had the body off the frame? has all the body work been done? are you saying the frame and bottom of the body are the only things left to "clean up"?

Ive got about $6000 In my 70 Chevelle,(over the 5 years of ownership) that includes buying it too. I do ALL! of the work my self because labor cost will not add value to the car and I simply cant afford it. Not to mention when someone asks I get to tell them "yep, I did all the work my self" Working on my car is something I just enjoy doing, other wise I couldnt own it.

i think that anyone that is considering a car as a hobby should also consider buying a couple (whatever it takes) books and spend the "labor" money on tools because the good tools are replaceable at anytime for no cost and will always be there when you need something done
i have about 10k in mine if i count the purchase price...but i drove it for five plus years before starting work and have owned it for 20 years...so i'm not so incline to count the 2k purchase price...i don't have a hydraulic press (yet) to press the suspension bushings in/out, bought a performance transmission, and had the machine work done for the motor...i assembled the engine and suspensionand i installed the transmission... currently collecting replacement body panels...considering paying a bodyman for the sheetmetal work...we'll see
