I have an '85 Monte Carlo SS that came with the L69 5.0L motor that came with 9.5:1 compression stock. When I recently had it rebuilt the engine builder claimed (after he was done of course) that only the Camaro came with the HO L69 motor therefore mine only had 8.5:1 pistons. (even swore to it in front of a judge. ) But I digress. My question is this, should I have the heads milled to bring the compression back up or go ahead and put in the right pistons? Thanks, Larry.

i'm gonna say it would be easier to put higher cr pistons in it than to start milling the heads... the heads can be milled and put back on while replacing the pistons will require complete disassembly... but once the heads have been milled, you can't put the material back on, the decks will be thinner and once they have warped or have had sufficient mileage to need another rebuild, you'll be looking for heads, for a 305 also...after so much milling, the intake needs to be milled to match up to the heads again
- i did love my chevette (first car) more than my first wife my 94 4.3L Astrobrick would outrun the 99 5.4L f350 i had to drive for work

Changing the pistons is the best way.

You could also go to smaller chamber heads to increase compression ratio.

Thanks. I figured doing the pistons was the best way. Larry.
