i could not find a 98 wiring diagram.. but for a 2000 there are 2 or 3 relays.. depending on options on the car..
a day time running light module..
and a pair of diodes in the underhood relay box to stop the feed back or power from the daytime running lights back through the headlight circuit.. or maybe the other way... as the headlights run at full voltage .. the DRL run at reduced voltage.. hmm...
there are 4 or 5 wiring diagrams for 2000 over at autozone.com... if you need your exact.. you will have to get them from alldatadiy.com or eautorepair.net having the exact info will make working on them easier..
it really sounds more and more like a relay.. or the power to the relay... and dont forget that these work backwards... at least in the 2000 diagrams.. the power goes to the common connector.. the low and hi beams are activated by various circuits that pull the low beam circuit to ground or the hight beam circuit..
just curious... do the headlights come on high beam when you pull up on the flash to pass .... you could have lost the ground in the head lamp switch wiring ...
someone else will know more than me about these...
