Trying not to pay a mechanic to do it, wanna learn and do i on my own. I've researched several ways but want to see what you guys recommend or think is the easiest and most effective way. Remember, talk slowly with lots of details and step by step. Thanks in advance.

As a plce to start out I learned in school to turn in the screws all the way. Then out 1.5 turns. From there I forget...Sorry. I borrow my buddys book (which is published my HotRod sorry Super Chevy) and do what they say. I believe they say to turn each screw in and watch the RPM's. I think the objective is try to get it to the highest RPM. You can do this with a vacuum gauge as well. Hope this helps

Thanks. Anyone else with have their own methods? Also, what RPM should my car idle at? I run a 355, with cast iron heads (ported), 650 carb, weiand intake (team g), mild cam with hydraulic lifters and msd ignition system.

start with idles screws at same number of turns out (1.5 - 2) hook vacuum gauge to read manifold vacuum turn idle screws evenly until highest vacuum reading at idle is reached reset idle speed if necessary should idle smoothly between 700 & 800
- i did love my chevette (first car) more than my first wife my 94 4.3L Astrobrick would outrun the 99 5.4L f350 i had to drive for work

who makes the carb. there are free vids online on tuning most carbs. also need to know what kind of distributer you have, and the heads are they factory head or a aftermarket head that is ported.
you also need to learn how to read your plugs. that will tell you what going on with timing and carb tuning. hit me back. I'll walk you thourgh it.
