I have a 1970 camaro with a th400/shift kit/2500 stall and 3.42 gearing in the rear end. Do you think the zz4 would be an allright motor to put in it? Its going to be driven pretty often but i also want it to kick me into the seat pretty hard. What have yall heard about this motor?

Thanks

A buddy of mine installed a ZZ4 355HP crate engine in a 1970 camaro with 3.90 gears and it did not have that hard kick at all.

You'll get a kick, but not like you'd get with more HP or a big block.

The ZZ4 is a great engine, to give it some more head smacking power, I'd suggest swapping the cam out to a more aggressive one. The factory cam in the ZZ4 is a mild cam, so there's more performance left in the engine. Give the guys at Comp Cams a call, ask them for a cam recommendation.

Hi people,
If I was to upgrade my ZZ4/355 I would go to what I know and I would
    use a set of TFS 195 heads with a B/Grant 725 Road Demon carby..0r 700
Holley double pumper..You want more then be prepared to pay for it...
My previous 355 with a 290hp cam went well with the same compression
and these heads B/G carby and the roller cam is much better for your
demands. The torque on the 355 was 364lbs. very flat and ready.
my car with 3 fuel tanks and lots of junk weighbridges at 4420lbs.
I believe the Standard  "MILD" cam has a lot more to offer than
those small 163 heads allow it to show. All the best with the project

Go With the ZZ454 Crate Engine that has some pretty good kick with a 3.73 rear end !
