I would like to see stories on 396/402 and even 427 buildups. It's hard to build them up since all of the info out there is for huge cube big blocks. You can easily over do it on the smaller ones whan it comes to cam, valve sizing and heds for the smaller rats.

it's easier to find small block build-ups in those sizes than it is big blocks
- i did love my chevette (first car) more than my first wife my 94 4.3L Astrobrick would outrun the 99 5.4L f350 i had to drive for work

With the ability to build good, reliable small blocks over 400 cid, and gas prices beign what they are, the 396/427 engines have seen a drop in popularity. Now you can even build Gen I and LS-based small blocks over 454 cid.

Ya, I understand that there aren't too many articles out there for a reason. But I know people are building them, I have seen them around. With vintage drag racing becoming as popular as it ha,s I am figuring there is going to be some more info out in Mag/Internet land. Hell, I have a coworker that has an Edelbrock aluminum headed roller camed 427 in a real 70 SS Chevelle with a Tremec 5 speed. The car hauls ass. I guess it is just frustrating since I am doing a buildup of a 396 for my Chevelle and am having a hard time with it. I could build somthing bigger. I just picked up a running 454 & 400 tranny for $400 out of a 79 1 ton dualie yesterday. But that's not as cool to me.
