there is a way to interpret that information but i can't remember were to find it what year is the housing? what did it come out of? how many bolts hold the inspection cover on?
- i did love my chevette (first car) more than my first wife my 94 4.3L Astrobrick would outrun the 99 5.4L f350 i had to drive for work

Jack up the car off rear wheels mark the tires and the drive shaft , get a buddy to help you spin the both tires at the same time and see how many times your drive shaft spins.
With one full rotation of your tires , if your drive shaft spins 3 1/2 times it might be a 3.50 rear end.
I think thats how it works, its not always right i did that to mine it spined 3 1/2 times and i ended up having a 3.73 rear end.

yes that is an accurate way to get the gear ratio. Mark the pinion yoke with a marker then rotate (both) tires exactly one revolution and count the pinion rounds. You have to be precise otherwise there will be a lot of deviation in your findings.
