I have got a 4l80E trans and want to install it into a 83 crew cab dually. Has any one installed on of these in an older truck? I know the drive shaft will need to be modified and I have to have a controller unit. Is there any thing to look out for for this project?

the cross member needs to be modded and the exhaust might be in the way if its got duals

this one shows it going in a truck... but the truck was equipped with a 4L60E so they did not have to do much electronics

thanks, also what about the speedo? the trans uses a speed sensor. I have never herd of a replacement electric speedo for these trucks. the factory one is perfect condition and I dont want to change the bezel

IM TRYING THE SAME SWAP ON MY TRUCK. I'VE BEEN RESEARCHING BEFORE I START. THERE ARE TAIL HOUSING KITS AVAILABLE TO SWAP FROM SPEEDSENSOR TO MECHANICAL. 30 MIN BOLT ON INSTALLATION IS ADVERTISED FOR $500. I FOUND THIS ONE AT SHIFTWORKS.COM.

Thanks, there is a lot more than meets the eye. This installation is gonna cost me around $1000 and thats doing all of the work myself. I have found the tailhousing speedo conversions. The the TCI shift controller seems to be the best and the cheapest at $750. I sure hope the used trans that I got is good.
