Need some quick advice. I have a 355 with 350 tranny, 650 carb, ported cast iron heads and mild cam. I fixed the overheating problem, steadily running at 160-ish. Just finished engine swap into my nova and idles without issues for over 5 minutes. However, i drove it around the block and back and car turned off as i pulled into the driveway and then had trouble starting it again. Temperature was fine at 160-ish. What gives? Does my carb need to be tuned, never done it. How bout timing? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Does the starter drag when the engine is hot? If so the timing is too high. Have you adjusted the carb? air screws, this wont cause hard starting but can cause idle problems. The temp is fine and is not an issue with the problem you are describing.

I would check your timing. Also if it is idling rough check your idle mixture screws a good start ist 1 to 1 1/4 turns out. Set your timing first.
