I just bought a 1971 el camino with a big block; i was told the engine (454) came out of a 1996 1 ton p/u truck. The numbers stamped above the timing chain are - T0818PLA- Can anyone help to identify this engine? thanks

According to that site, it has 8 1/2:1 compression with oval port open chamber heads. Any idea what comp & HP would be if I switched the heads for oval port, closed chamber heads?

The heads have the 'peanut' chamber; would I be better off swapping to oval port oc heads, or going to oval port closed chamber heads?

Try looking on kendrick-auto.com. They have a good list of cast numbers for small and big block chevys.
