I have a 68 camaro with a freshly built 383 stroker, a th350 transmission. I took it out for the first time and the the car would shift all the gears but would not exceed about 50 mph at about 5,000 rpm. For that power pushing out of the motor the speed should be almost double that and before I pull the transmission I thought I'd ask some input. There is no shaking or weird noises, at least that I can hear over the exhaust, the fluid is still red and not burnt smelling or looking. Help me please!

transmission seems to have power and shifts into all the gears fine, can't feel any slipping and I can't really hear it over the car.

with 4.11 gears and 26" tires will put you at about 3000 rpms at 55 mph are you sure the speedometer is correct? If the trans is slipping and 5000 rpms it wont keep pulling for long.
