getting ready to start 383 build for my boat. first of many questions is, what signifies a roller block? currently an 88 5.7. if this is gen. 1 what is the year spread.if 2 questions are not cool, hollar. thanks in advance for any help. R.

a roller block is one that is machined to accept roller lifters...  there is usually a hold down spider... to hold down the lifter alignment guides...    the lifter bore bosses are usually slightly taller..  



almost every parts store has books on Rebuilding the small block chevy...   and there will be several others on it also...

best to spend some time in there...   and in the tech articles above..

you might check this search.. it may come up with a few mopar motors.. but there is a lot of stroker small block build artciles

there are several things you really need to do when building marine motors..  slight changes in parts.. head gaskets.. freeze plugs.. as building a marine motor is like building a circle track motor..  it has to run for hours and hours close to flat out...

i don't have my castings numbers book in front of me right now.. but i bet a lot of people will have theirs  and be able to give you an exact answer...

Factory roller gen1 block are from 1987-95 after that it was the vortec.
