i just joined this forum. hello all.  i have looked around here a bit to find an answer to this question without much luck. i have a 98 gmc k 1500 w/ a tired 5.0l.  210K miles on her. getting a little rattly inside when i start it up.  i plan on buying a NEW crate motor for it and the price between the 5.0 and the 5.7 is so close, why wouldn't i use this time to upgrade. i know everything will bolt up but what about the engine management system? will it even know the difference between these two engines?

your going to need to change computers, fuel pump, and maybe the intake. not sure about the intake. call your local gm parts store to find out if they are the same. and you need to upgrade the trans with a shift kit. that should be all.
