The L 78 engine is widely rumored to actually produce 425 hp. the 396 that was offered in vettes and advertised at 425 hp is said to be the same one that was rated 375 hp in other cars. GM just wanted to save top dog status for the vette for sales reasons. I have heard this from many old timers. true- I dont know. the carb you mention is L78 equipment, and unless the ports are larger the heads you have are the same other than being alum. if i was betting, i would say your exhaust is probably worth 30-40 hp. with headers L 78 novas were known to run in the high 11 second range. of course thats with 4.11 gears or better.with that in mind, i would say 475+ hp is a fair estimate. hope this helps! remember, theres no such thing as global warming!
