Here is my problem: I have a 65 Impala SS with a T&L 383 stroker. New stock radiator, stock style polished aluminum fan blade, shroud and an electric fan that runs only when I turn it on. 50/50 water , antifreeze mix with water wetter, chrome hi flow water pump and hi flow 180 degree thermostat. All with less than 5000 miles.
The car runs all day at 175-180, but when I get stuck in traffic the heat builds to over 260 if I let it, and the electric fan which is mounted on the ac condenser and pulls outside air toward the motor does not seem to help. How can I correct this problem as it limits where and when I can travel. I also have AC but I have not used it .

how is the radiator cap???/ is the little brass disc in the middle of the rubber spring loaded toward the rubber.???
how far from the radiator is the fan????? maybe it needs to be spaced a little closer... or bring the radiator back some...
those cars did have a spacer between the radiator and the core support for V8 models... they left it out for straight six models... it moved the radiator back about an inch and a half.. as i recall...
is the electric cooling fan.. pushing the air the right way???/
ever thought about going to a factory high pitch fan with a heavy duty thermostatic fan clutch???/ something off a mid 80 rear wheel drive cad... or chevy pickup.???? lots of air flow... and a fan clutch to control only put a lot of power to the fan when there is hot water in the radiator.. just make sure that it is driven V belts ... not a flat belt as it will be reverse rotation... and will just ad to the confusion..

I would change over to a dual electric fan with a good shroud. When you are sitting in traffic the motor is idling and moving little air when you need it most. The new electric fans with variable speeds work great and will end your overheating problems. I have a Black Magic dual fan setup and I can run 180 all day long even on back to back runs at the track.
