I am most likely in the wrong section. But if anyone can help would be appreaciated. My boy's car is a 2002 saturn SL2. Front wheen drive with an automatic transmission. (1G8ZK52712Z148739) The motor started to use oil a year ago. Now it is knocking. The car is in good shape. I checked the local junk yards to find that they want a big price for a motor with around 100-115 thousand miles. I have searched the net for a crate motor. (1.9 L) All I am comming up with is used motors. Does anyone know of a place that I can purchase a crate motor for the saturn? Now,,,,,,,im finding that the motor will have to come out from the bottom. I have a two post lift if that is the case. It shows that the air conditioner pump has to be un-hooked and the freon recovered. Is it possible to un bolt the pump and not mess with the freon. But for now,,my main concern is to find out where I can get a re-man motor for it. By the way,,,,,,,,,what kind of motor is in this car,,,? thanks

Check with your local Autozone or Advance Auto parts for a fresh, rebuilt engine.
Another option is hunting the You-Pull-It yards for a similar Saturn with a decent motor and do the work yourself. Usually a motor out of a DIY yard will be 200-300 plus a core charge.
It'll probably be expensive, but check with your local Saturn dealer just out of curiousity and see what they get for a factory service engine.

Thanks. I did check Autozone. $2200.00 plus 225 bucks for a core charge. This is for a long block. Since the motor I am looking for is for a 2002 LS2 with the 8th digit on the vin..(7)..reflects.a ..DOHC, not the simple single overhead cam. I found on the internet several places listed with motors. The one I needed was at the bottom of the list that reflected over 1000 miles at 1200 or more miles. I just don't want to have to invest that much money with that many miles on it and have to do it again. Of course the listing stated "Does not burn oil". The mystery in the saturn that I have, it never leaked oil, I could not see any oil burning out the exhaust but it was using a quart of oil per 500 miles. With that combination,,,,,,,and a young driver with the same concept of his mother,,,drive it till the light comes on,,,,,,,caused it to start knocking. It appears that the dual over head cam motors are not cheap through autozone, and if you find a used one,,,,,it has so many miles on it, and your taking a big gamble.

Ok, just confirmed that the motor did not run out of oil. The knock started all at once. Now when it is setting at an idle, it runs ok, but when you put it into gear it just falls on it's face and has litle power. I done some checking on the Autozone side to get an idea of what it could be. An OB tester on the system shows that there is problems with a crankshaft sensor along with the o2 sensor. I was just wondering if the crankshaft sensor bad, would this cause the motor to make the knocking sound.

Made a mistake on the above info. It has a cod or P0341 camshaft position sensor. Would this cause the cam to go out of calibur and cause it to make a knocking noise?
