hey guys i have been trying to figure out wether i can use my stock distributor thats on my tbi motor in my 91 silverado. i am building a 4 bolt small block for it and i want to run a carb. can i use the stock distributor?

well.. yes... since you will not have the computer working... it will work... there is some advance built into the HEI module.. so it may give you some advance...
you might not want to set it to the full 10 or 15 degrees called for on the sticker..
there are several small cap aftermarket units.. that have adjustable timing curves... turn a small electronic switch to vary the curve... they also work with vacuum hook ups.. i think crane has one...
by the way... under the distributer.. is the oil pressure sending unit.. it has 3 terminals... one terminal goes to the gauge ... one terminal has switched power.. the other terminal feeds power to the electric fuel pump when there is oil pressure... you might also be able to rewire the control circuit wiring on the fuel pump relay... so the coil is grounded all the time.. and the coil power side gets power during cranking... this will power the fuel pump before the oil pressure comes up...
a trip the the junk yard will get you extra connectors for this... so you can remove the unused terminals from the connector and plug in replacements ... so you don't damage whats left of your harness..
study the engine wiring diagram... autozone.com has them on their repair info site..
