Whats up everybody!!! I just joined today so if im posting in the wrong place im sorry! I have also tried searching for this but couldnt find anything. Here is my Question...... I have a 96 chevy z71 with the vortec 5.7. I blew the motor up last week and my friend offerd a LT-1 for cheep. the heads on it are stock and have been ported and polished and it has a big raceing cam. is it posible to put the vortec intake system on this motor or will the LT-1 stuff work with my wireing and computer and what all will i have to do to put this motor in my truck. I was told i would have to change out the cam or put a stall converter in my truck. any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

i'm sure this can be done but it won't be a bolt-in plug'n'play
the lt1 has a different serpetine system as the water pump is driven off of the cam
the truck motor's water pump is also reverse rotation but driven by the crank via serpentine belt
the truck has a distributor, i believe the lt1 has coil packs and crank/cam triggers (check your friend motor to be sure), so wiring that will be on the list of changes
the lt1 has a different injection system from the truck vortec
i don't know if the lt1 has the vortec manifold bolt pattern or the second style center 4 bolts (center four not at 90* to manifold surface)
this is in no way a complete list but just a start at what the differences are
good luck with what ever you decide

I Had helped a friend do this about 5 years ago. So I can tell you the problems your going to run into.
The first thing is the wiring of the motor. your going to need the LT1 stuff unless you want to go carborated. The vortec electronics were out dated so to say compared to the LT1s. That and we are talking about 2 different gen. motors, so parts cann't be mixed around.
the second thing we ran into was the trans. We had trouble with the trans bellhousing not fitting. the bolt patern lined up but the depth was to much. the converter came out of the trans when matting it upto the flywheel. But after it went in and was driving the trans burned up. turns out that it needed an upgrade and a shift kit. No problems since.
The third big thing was the fuel lines. the vortec motor had a different fuel system and being an LT1 with a few mods you might need to upgrade the fuel pump.
thoughs are the big thing t worry about. the others are simple things lin electric fans, motor mounts, throtle bracket, etc.
hope this helps best of luck

Had to use the LT1 intake. The vortec and LT1 motors are not interchangable. They are to different beasts. As far as the per formance goes it did great. The one we did was a 93 silverado standard cab and bed. So all it did was roast the tires.

i won't try to scare you on what could happen...
just make sure the motor will turn over, all the way around, twice preferably (use a wrench/ratchet and socket on the crank bolt) before you buy

well i know if he would have held the petro to it a lil longer it probly would have shot a rod through the block. i want to keep the big cam but in order to do that im gonna have to get a stall converter. i have the 4l60 transmition hey trans am what upgrade kit did he have to get i was gonna do a shift kit with corvet servos. and i got a single cab short bed also so this shuld be fun! im gonna get rid of my 35" tires and go to like a 33 or 32 so it wont have to pull all the weight.

Is it the 4L60 or the 4L60E? What year is the trans? You need to know what trans kit to get. They are both the same trans inside for the most part. Your going to need to upgrade most of the hard parts like the planitaries, beast shell, output shaft, so on. Now my buddy got his done at a trans shop. I personaly am going to get one from Monster Transmission becaues it about the same price as doing it yourself. Plus it comes with a warrenty.
now the shift kit that my buddy instaled was a TCI trans scat kit and a manual valvebody kit. I put a B+M shitpack with a modified valvebody in mine. They both did great but I liked the TCI scat kit better.
best of luck.

I have the 4l60. and the trans am is a 96 it also has the 4l60. he told me 300 for the motor and computer and if i want the wiring its anothe 50 so 350 for everything. the computer has been burnt so that will add a lil extra pep to it. ill have to get a cold air intake for it cuz he already sold the one that came off it.

well ive give up on the complete motor swap but im gonna use the LT-4 hot cam out the Lt-1 and rebuild my Vortec motor. What all will i need to do to my heads and also what is the stock ratio on the LT-1 rocker arms cuz i will be uesing these and the push rods and roller lifters. I stoped with the LT-1 project due to that the block needs alot of work and i dont have all the money it would take.
