WHAT AMOUNT OF TORQUE SHOULD IT TAKE TO TURN A FRESH ENGINE? I HAVE A FRESH 327 BORED +.040. THE CRANK TURN AT 10/10. CLEVITE BEARINGS, FM PISTONS AND RINGS. ALL NEW PARTS. TIMING CHAIN IS NOT ATTACHED. AND I USED LUCAS ASSEMBLY LUBE. I HAVE ATLEAST .008IN IN SIDE TO SIDE ROD CLEARANCE. ROD CAPS ARE TORQUED TO 35FT LBS. MAINS ARE AT APR BOLTS TORQUE SPEC. NO SCARS ON THE CYLINDERS EITHER. BUT IT TAKES 70 FT LBS TO ROTATE THE ENGINE. IS THIS OK. I THOUGHT IT WAS SUPPOSE TO TAKE ABOUT 40 FT LBS.

Next time I would try to stay away from the clevite bearings they are soft and I have had problems out of them.
What was the bearing, ring and piston side clearances.
With the mains torqued to specs did the crank turn good and smooth before the rods pistons and rings were installed.
Were the rods resized.

I HAVE TO GO CHECK. NOW THAT YOU ASK, I BELEIVE EVERYTHING WAS TURNING SMOOTH UNTIL I PUT PISTONS 5&6 IN. I DO KNOW THAT I HAVE ATLEAST 008IN SIDE ROD CLEARENCE.

THE RODS WHERE RESIZED. ALSO I DIDNT FOLLOW THE NUMBER MARKINGS ON THE RODS AND CAPS WHEN I INSTALLED THEM BECAUSE WHEN I GOT THIS MOTOR IT WAS IN PIECES, AND THE CAPS HAD BEEN MARKED ALREADY BUT THEY WHERE JUST THROWN TOGETHER AND SOME OF THE CAPS WHERE MARKED WITH THE SAME NUMBERS. LIKE TWO OF THEM WHERE NUMBER 7 AND TWO OTHERS WHERE MARKED NUMBER 4. (CONFUSING)

Ok  as long as the caps were kept with the same rod after they were resized then you should be fine and if the rod cap were installed correctly then you should be fine also.
You did make sure that the mark on the piston was pointing to the front of the engine and the bearing notches on the rods were pointing out ward right.

IT TAKES 75FT LBS OF TORQUE TO ROTATE THE ENGINE. DO YOU THINK THATS OK? MY MACHINIST SAID ITS PROBLY FINE BUT IT SEEMS A BIT TO MUCH.

If all the rods, pistons, and rings were installed correctly and the clearances are with in proper specs then you should be fine.
