1989 Camaro 350 TBI T-5
Alright here's the deal. I am sick of this car, I cannot figure out what is wrong with it. If you give me an idea and it fixes the car I will send you 25 dollars over paypal. And I will trust me.
Car runs fine until something happens. The SES light comes on. The car bogs down, when you WOT it gets VERY loud and the RPMs SLOWLY increase and barely can get over 3000 RPMs and SOMETIMES back fires in the intake. Shut the car down and restart it it runs perfect after that. I will be getting a video of this tomorrow.
When I pull the codes I get 24 and 43.
24. When engine speed was between 1200 and 4400 RPM and throttle position angle was less than 3%, the MAP signal showed low voltage (high manifold vacuum) for at least 5 seconds. (http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=27#5LTBI) I just saw this and am unsure on how to fix this... Any ideas?
24. Circuit fault in vehicle speed sensor (http://www.thirdgen.org/service-engi...error-codes)My car does not have a Vehicle Speed Sensor
43 The ECM did not detect a knock signal during near wide open throttle operation with coolant temperature above 194° F or the knock signal was present for 4 seconds or more during normal engine operation. (http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=27#5LTBI) Replaced the Knock sensor
43. Low voltage at electronic spark timing circuit (http://www.thirdgen.org/service-engi...ht-error-codes) Replaced the ignition module
What I have replaced on the car (was not meant to fix the problem): Alternator Battery Oil pressure sending unit ECM

code 24. this can be a false code24 replace the park/neutral switch. this will cause your trans to go nuts. causing a false failure in the vehicle speed sensor circuit. Even if you car has no speed sensor.
code 43. you can have a poor electrical connection, open or short in circuit; defective ESC module; defective knock sensor; defective ECM. First check all wires and conections clean. Including grounds. Make sure there are no brakes or loose wires. Replace the ESC (electronic spark control) module located somewhere on the wire wall. Replace the knock sensor. You might have 2 knock sensor. If the ecm is bad then replace it. You said that you replaced the ecm already and a knock sensor.

That backfire through the intake is probably a lean backfire because the injectors are not firing properly, But you say you shut it off then restart the engine and it runs fine. The only situation that I know of this is on a ford truck I was working was running like crap then my brother was looking through the wires and moving the harness around all of the sudden the engine instantly started running normal then he moved it again and it ran bad again. It heeded an engine harness. I wonder if there is a possibility of something like this. Also very important check all of the grounds on the engine harness these are the sensor grounds, these could cause the codes to set also. Even though the sensors are good.

do a visual inspection of all under the hood wiring. i had this same problem with a pickup same codes turns out the manifold had burned some wires and they where shorting out on the block and it was causing the computer to throw false codes.
