396 HEADS AND FLAT TOP PISTONS

I HAVE A 396 BBC. I HAVE TO BORE IT TO 4.155 CAUSE OF CYLINDER WEAR. WOULD FLAT TOP PISTONS W/ 4 VALVE RELIEFS WORK GOOD WITH 396 OPEN CHAMBER HEADS? I WAS GONNA GET SOME DOME TOP CAUSE THATS WHAT 396 CAME OUT WITH BUT THEN THE PRICE WILL BE 800+ AT SUMMIT CAUSE ITS BASICALLY A 409 PISTON. BUT A 402 030. OVERBORE VERSION THATS FLAT TOP IS LIKE $26 A PISTON.

What CC are the combustion chambers on the heads or just list the casting numbers.

OK I POSTED WRONG. MY HEADS ARE 396 BUT THEY ARE CLOSED CHAMBER HEADS NOT OPEN. THEY ARE MISMATCHED HEADS, THAS HOW I GOT THEM. BUT HERE ARE THE CASTING NUMBERS 3964290 & 3931063.

The engine will be low compression around 8-8.5:1.

SEEMS A LITTLE LOW. YOU THINK I WILL GET GOOD POWER. I WANT IT TO BE STREETABLE TOO.
I DONT PLAN ON RACING OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. I JUST WANT TO HAVE THE POWER AVAILABLE IF I DECIDE TO USE IT. GONNA BE A DAILY DRIVER (I THINK). IM GONNA DROP IT IN MY 85 1/2 TON SHORT BED. MIGHT DO A BURN OUT HERE AND THERE.

NOT REAL SURE. THATS WHAT IM TRYING TO FIGURE NOW. THIS IS WHAT IM THINKING.NOT SURE ABOUT THE CAM. I KNOW I WANT GOOD IDLE AND PROBLY HAVE A RPM RANGE FROM IDLE TO 2400 OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. STOCK STROKE, 4.155 CYLINDER BORE, FLAT TOP PISTONS, STOCK 396 CLOSED CHAMBER HEADS, AIR GAP EDELBROCK INTAKE, HOLLEY TRUCK AVENGER 670 CARB, HEI DIST W/ MSD 6ANL DISTRIBUTION BOX, ROYAL PURPLE OIL, AND A STOCK TURBO 400. ALL IN A 85 CHEVY TRUCK 1/2 TON SWB.

It should work ok but I wouldn't go to big on the cam.
Also is the intake a rpm or performer.

No not really the heads you mentioned frist are a 100cc and the 049 heads are 113cc so they will give you even less compression.

OH REALLY..OK, DIDNT KNOW THAT. SO DO YOU THINK DOME PISTONS OR FLAT TOPS WOULD BE BETTER WITH THE 396 HEADS?

WELL IF I CAN GET MORE BY JUST BUYING SOME NEW DOME TOPS, ILL PROBLY TAKE IT. I HAVE TO BUY NEW PISTONS ANYWAY, MIGHT AS WELL GET THE MOST OUT OF THE. I ONLY WANT TO DO THIS ONCE.

I CANT FIND ANY PISTONS FOR MY 402 ANYWHERE BESIDES SUMMIT. DO YOU KNOW OF ANY PLACES I COULD LOOK. IVE BEEN TO JEGS AND NORTHERN AUTO BUT NO LUCK. NORTHERN AUTO HAD SOME BUT IT SAID FOR A 5.7 ROD. I GUESS THEIR FOR A SMALL BLOCK 400.
