305 start up issues!!!!!!!

i rebuilt the 305 that was in my truck, all new parts, set the dist in the #1 firing pos at tdc, aprox 8 degrees btd. it keeps tryn to start and will fire the cylnders but wont actualy start... the cam isnt advanced or ret, and the fuel sys is ok. have any ideas? thanks

oh yea and the cams more agressive. here are the specs> with 1.5/1 rockers intake .442 exhaust .465
advertised duration : intake 272 degrees exhaust 282 degrees
Opens @ Closes
intake 0*btdc intake 34*abdc exhaust 49*bbdc exhaust -5*btdc
please help???

take the cap back off the distributer...
line up the timing marks... on the balancer... to 8 ... see if the reluctor teeth and the pick up coil teeth line up exactly...
i take it that you did get the distributer in with the rotor pointing forward and off slightly towards the drivers side of the motor..
put the rotor back on.. set the cap on.. make sure the rotor is pointing towards where the number one wire is hooked up to...
how many key ways were there in the crank sprocket... 1 or 3 or 9... i am talking about keyways not teeth on the outside... ?????????????????????

well it started throwing flames out the exhaust when i advanced the timing more, so i had a feeling that i was a tooth off on the distributor and after i reset that it fired rite up, and sounded awsome
