Breifly guys, I have 1986 chevy truck just installed 1996 NEW Vortec 5.7(stock) i have it carburated(holley650)edlebrock intake,nothing fancy, th350 tranny, im having problems with a surge when im at a standstill with the brake mashed and taking off cuts off, when starting and freshly put in gear stalls. Dont know what the deal is? can u give me some ideas on what to look for/or do? also just recently my transmission wont shift into 3rd. could that be related or not?

sounds like a vacume leek. disconect the brake booster and start looking. brake booster or booster check valve could be damaged or the valve could be stuck open. By pluging the brake booster vacume line you are taking that whole assembly out of the equation.try that and reply back.
