OK I JUST GOT A TRANNY FOR A 100 BUCKS. IT SUPPOSE TO BE A 700R4 BUT I WAS ALSO TOLD IT IS OUT OF A 96 3/4 TON, SO MY GUESS IS THAT IT IS A 4L80E OR A 4L60E. I JUST GOT IT AND I HAVENT FOUND OUT WHAT IT IS FOR SURE. SO IF IT IS A 4L80 OR A 4L60, WHAT DO IN NEED TO DO AND BUY TO INSTALL THIS IN MY 85 CHEVY HALF TON WITH A 350 ENGINE. I GOTTA HAVE OVERDRIVE.

what is the numbers on the plate on the side of the tranmission???????
if it is a 4L60E or a 4L80E you can buy a transmission electronic controller..
there are a lot of options...
how many pan bolts...???? how many terminals in the connector... the numbers off the tin tag are the best way to identify it...
some units ... earlier units... have their numbers stamped into the case right above the pan rail....

ITS A 4L80E... NOW I HAVE A DIFFERENT PROBLEM. WHEN THIS GUY PULLED THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION OUT, HE DIDNT UNPLUG THE WIRE HARNESS AND THE PINS ARE BENT WHERE THE WIREHARNESS PLUGS IN ON THE DRIVERSIDE. WHERE CAN I GET REPLACEMENTS OR AM I SCREWED. ALSO IVE BEEN RESEARCHING AND SO FAR THE ONLY WAY I HAVE FOUND TO ADD THIS 4L80E IN MY 85 IS TO BUY A CONTROL UNIT FOR $800.

You got a good deal. But you do need all the electorics. Any part for it is ez to find. you also need the control unit as well due to the shift silinoids and lock up.

If you don't have or can't get a control unit. JEGS has one part# 890-377500 $735.99 Wiring harness,GM 4L trans Part# 890-377502 $139.99 This is a TCI unit comes with everything you need. Check to see if the original harness will work or if you need the TCI harness.
