i have a '78 Z automatic car, the third 2nd gen. i have owned. Anyways i built a pretty good 406 small block for it and picked up a 4 speed saginaw. The guy gave me the 350 flywheel, starter, clutch pedal assembly, z-bar, drive shaft and crossmember for $200. A steal I know. So i'm getting ready to put it all in the car, and since the 406 is external ballance and the 350 flywheel is not, i went and bought a balance plate that you bolt up in between the crankshaft and flywheel. my question is this, is the thickness of this plate gonna cause me any type of clutch problems when i bolt it all together? anyone ever used this plate??

Get a spacer plate to go in between the engin and trans that is the same thikness as the balance plate. That way you take out the guess work.
Depending on the thikness of the balance plate, you might run into the problem with a faulty cluch or a cluch that wears out to quick.

how thick is the plate? if it is an 1/8 inch or less there will be no problem. Oh be careful with the saginaw it will break if heavily abused.

If you have the aluminum 621 bellhousing the 11 inch clutch will work, go with it for sure.
