Happened right out of the blue. Went to start the car and nothing. It won't even turn over. So, my first thought was the battery of course, checked out at 12.70 volts. check the ohms on the starter relay (which by the way I can here clicking when someone else tries to start the car.) hooked a ground jumper up to 85, hot jumper up to 86 and check ohms on 87 and 30, got 1 ohm - 0.9 ohms, as far as I know thats correct for a starter relay. I'm getting 12+ volts of the terminal coming from the solenoid to the starter when trying to start the car. checked all the ignition fuses. The only other thing I can think of is the park/neutral position switch, but I dont know how to check that to see if it needs replaced. Any ideas of what I haven't checked? any ideas on how to check the PNP Switch?
Thanks

i would also try jumping the solenoid right at the starter..... see if the starter actually works properly....
dirty battery cables, dirty ground connections at the motor, is the anti theft light on while you were trying to crank the motor...

The most important Q. is what kind of car do you have. new, old, year, make, modle. all this is important. there not all the same.

If the solenoid's clicking, then it sounds like the starter's gone belly up. If it was the neutral safety switch, the solenoid wouldn't be tyring to engage.
Try this. Tap on the starter case with a hammer a few times, then try to start the car/truck. If it starts, for sure you've got a bad starter. If no start, and the solenoid still clicks without the starter engaging, then I'd pull the starter and take it to your local Autozone or equivalent and have them test it out of the vehicle.

wait.... new cars have PMGR starters... (Permanent magnet planetary gear reduction ) some are Permanent magnet direct drive... these have a small motor diameter... tapping these with a hammer.. dropping them when they are out of the car... MAY CRACK the Permanent magnets... sometimes they will shatter... they are ceramic...

Maybe I said something the wrong way on my original question. The relay is clicking, I can tell its working besides I did check it. There isn't any noise at all coming from the starter or solenoid. Which leads me to believe it has something to do with the Park neutral switch nd I'm not sure but I don't think the car has an alarm system on it.

you can manually shift your tranny into park by getting under your car and move the selecter switch all the way to the back of the car and then try to start your car, that will put it into park. if it still doesn't start you should look at getting a new starter.

the prnd321 swich is located on the shifter or trans. not sure what year they moved it. To check it you need a manual and a multimeter. Readings are diff. on all prnd321 swiches. You need to test on all positions.
You can also check your grounds on the key swich and relay swich. also check the grounds on the starter.
check your fuses as well.
there's not much to this cicute, your have a key swich, relay swich, fuses, starter relay, starter and silenoid, and wires. you did said there is no factory secuity featur. no key fob. no auto lock doors, etc. that will make it now start.
also try to put it in nutral and start it. If it starts change the prnd321 swich. If not disconect the battery for a min and leave the car on run for 1 min. Take the starter to get it checked out.
you realy need a repair book if you don't have one.
