Check out the announcement on the Super Chevy homepage, GM is shutting down special vehicle production to focus on surviving the tough economic times and focusing on making more fuel efficient vehicles, hybrids, and cross overs.

What do you think about this move? Don't cuss, but be honest and let us know what you think.

For us at Super Chevy, we'll still have all the older Chevy products the readers are working to restore/restomod/make better in some way or another. We'll survive.

Our sources insist that it will not affect GM Performance Parts. My concern is "how can it not?" It's a sad day. I just had a Cobalt SS as a test car. It went like stink and averaged 31 mpg. That's 3 mpg more than a 5-speed Aveo I had the week before.

The Cobalt has fantastic handling, better seats than a Corvette and in the right hands can run low, low 14s in the quarter-mile.

We are told the Camaro will survive unscathed. Let's hope.

Big problem with the Cobalt SS, GM never marketed the car. Did you ever see an ad for the car? Anything to promote it as an economical, fuel efficient performance vehicle similar to the other import small performance cars out there? NO!

Honestly, besides ridiculous labor costs, GM suffers from poor marketing. Targeting 350Z buyers with the new Camaro instead of going after Mustang buyers? That, my friends, is INSANE!!!

It is like they were doing the opposite of what they needed to do.

Very much so. You have a great little performance car, for a good pridce, but don't tell anyone about it.

I just bought a GMPP 350 short block from a speed shop in Garland, TX.  The owner told me he had to scramble around to find one for me because GM had stopped production of their engines and shortblocks. I hope this is a short term delay in production and not a real closing of the line.
