I have a 350/350hp that was sitting after a looong restro project. I have done the following to get the engine back. I replaced the carb, all fuilds, spark plugs, belts and battery. I was able to get it running but heard tapping. So I replaced all the lifters figuring a lifter was hung up. Now once the car heats up to temp the tapping is still there on the driver's side. I removed the valve cover and there is very little oil coming up.....
Any ideas????

oil galleys could be blocked or restricted. more likely you have a weak oil pump. i try to replace my stock pump with a  new high volume oil pump. they are 70 or less and your oil pressure is gauranteed to jump to 25psi @idle & 60-80 while driving. also replace intermediate shaft W/steal retainer not nylon its only 11 more dont be cheap. tips dont do this to a cruddy motor, change oil frequantly afterwards. also getting yourself a new aftermarket gauge always helps you know exatcly where you are at to begin with. good luck.

Thanks for repling.... there is a high volume oil pump and pickup tube and driveshaft.this motor has only about 3k on it. The galleys are a good place to start especially the passenger side seems ok...
Is it possible to change the oil pump without pulling the motor.?

you didnt mention what the current oil pressure is when hot. The tick could be an ill adjusted rocker arm. When you look at the rockers with the engine running are they all oiling evenly. the spring could be sticking in the pump but not likely. Is is difficult but possible to drop the pan without pulling the engine.

update....installed a mechanical gauge in the main oil rifle and oil pressure is 31 psi when the engine is cold and 9 psi when hot...found very little oil making it up to the push tube and rocker arms.
Also did a compression test..
#8 155 psi  #7 140 psi
#6 150 psi  #5 135 psi
#4 145 psi  #3 140 psi
#2 150 psi  #1 145 psi
