Have you checked the fuel pressure? 7 PSI max! any more than this and it will push fuel past the needles. edelbrocks are VERY! sensitive to trash use high quality fuel filters. Change that oil b/c it will wash the bearings out. I have a truck with the same problem now, the carb has a little dirt in it from the mudd bog the other day.

WHen you're dumping that much fuel in the cylinders, it washes past the rings into the oil.
Definitely sounds like you've got way too much fuel pressure. What kind of pump are you running?

The pump is a standard GM pump.

i have the same problem on my brand F van.. 460 with a 4350 motorcraft carb... that i rebuilt last week.. i think it is the gas... runs fine cold... choke opens .. within 2 minutes of the thermostat opening.. the carb starts to flood... got to be the gas...
i could see the vapor boiling out of the carb when the motor died ... just sitting there idling. whats really strange... this past week my cousin who lives in the north west got a bad batch of fuel also... how can two batches of gasoline be bad 1200 miles apart...

Hay thanks everyone for your help the problem was the gas. Me and a friend pumped out the bad gas and changed the sparkplugs again and presto. So be careful chevy guys the gas monster is real.
